What are the classes like?

This is a highly engaging, personalized, and fun Spanish class with long-lasting results. The students and I build their vocabulary using highly-used words to craft stories, leading up to a workbook and novels. Fluency is further deepened with Spanish songs and Spanish story time

Students enter into an engaging, fun Spanish class with lasting results.

You can think of this class like a wonderful, 3-layer cake (complete with icing):

  • Base Layer: build students’ vocabulary

We begin class time by building students’ vocabulary of relevant and highly-used Spanish words using American Sign Language (ASL).

  • Thick, central layer: craft personalized, fun stories

The bulk of our classes is well spent with students hearing and using the learned vocabulary in a contextualized, dynamic way. We build a story as a class, adding details as we go. All who want to be involved become part of the story!

  • Third layer: workbook

The the personalized stories we form prepare students to read short stories from the workbook (which, by that time, they can do confidently).

  • Icing and cherry on top: songs/story-time

The class comes with a free student profile to on-demand, fun, and engaging songs made by a Chicago-based Spanish teacher. The songs are used inside and outside of class for further acquisition, vocabulary, and structures.

I have a unit of high-frequency vocabulary that we learn during our 'brain breaks,' and I have a mini-library of Spanish stories which I also read to students on occasion.

Weekly Sum-Up:

  • Review the facts of our story and add new details

  • Introduce new vocabulary using ASL

  •  Watch Señor Wooly video or have Spanish story time as a ‘brain break’

You'll have the convenience of a Spanish teacher in your own home when it works for you for a great hourly rate- between $15-$20 per 50-minute class for groups!

Why learn Spanish with me?
Why learn Spanish?

Why learn Spanish with me?

I provide affordable and engaging Spanish classes online with long-lasting results for homeschoolers, unschoolers, and online learners.

I am a licensed Spanish teacher with 7 years of experience and utilize a wonderful, tested method for Spanish acquisition: TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling) that uses Comprehensible Input (CI) to allow language to sink deeply into learners.

Why learn Spanish?

Here are the two main reasons I think it’s important:

Social/cultural benefits and Mental sharpness

  • Social/Cultural benefits

Being able to understand and communicate in Spanish opens a world of opportunities to communicate and build relationships with Spanish-speakers, work in missions in Spanish-speaking countries, travel confidently to Spanish-speaking countries.

Besides being something I love, for me Spanish has been extremely useful in many ways. For example, on  my most recent service trip to Costa Rica, I was able to act as translator for the group when needed (which I love), and before moving from CO to MO, I sold our shed to a Spanish-speaker. I wouldn’t have been able to do either without knowing Spanish!

  • Mental sharpness

For me, learning Spanish incorporated many facets- it’s like a combination of art (beautiful) and math (predictable formulas).

As I’ve learned Spanish more and more, my brain makes more and more connections between words in English and Spanish and it helps me connect and relate to the world around me.

Elizabeth is absolutely amazing!! She was my tutor when I studied Spanish in high school. I enjoyed working with her because she has the gift of a true teacher.

She is excellent at explaining how the language works and demonstrating how to apply the more difficult concepts to everyday speech.

She encouraged me as a student while challenging me to grow. Overall, I would say she helped me though increasing my knowledge, comprehension and confidence with Spanish.

I would 10 out of 10 recommend letting Elizabeth help you grow in your knowledge and confidence with Spanish!
